Roots????

Over the weekend one of the genealogy sites had a free search weekend.  So on a whim I typed in my name.. I found me, then started adding family members. It quickly became apparent that even though I know we have roots. I can't find much of anything, anywhere so it feels like we just appeared out of thin air.

I also realized that I know diddly about my dad's side of the family. I can't even produce names to plug into a website. They just were never talked about. Like EVER. I did ask once and got told that my grandfather was an extremely mean man and that my grandmother left when my dad was three. Just up and left. So I was told, who knows.  I was also told to NEVER ask again, so I didn't.

My mother is also pretty tight lipped about her family. I know both my grandparents were alcoholics, which is why I was never permitted to really visit them. It helped my dad was Military and we traveled and lived everywhere. In fact when my grandfather passed we had to get an emergency flight back to California from Germany.

I remember looking in the casket and thinking "hmm, so that's papaw." Pretty sad actually when you stop to think that I really didn't know what my own grandfather looked like. Hell I didn't know what ETHER of them looked like.

No wonder I don't really have strong family ties especially with my extended family and it doesn't usually bug me that we are not close. We are not a ride or die family, to be honest if there is a "die uttered its generally in the sentence of fuck off and die" which pretty much sums up why I don't speak to my 3 sisters or my niece.  If they are around and your missing a knife, you can generally find it in your back....

I am pretty close to my husbands family and over the past 10 years we have gotten huge.. Immediately family is now at 15 members. Honestly maybe that's the family tree I should start researching, I'm sure it would be easier when I have the family members right here to ask, then tackle my own where there is no one to give answers just records that can't talk about............

The only advice I have is to talk to your family historian's while you can, write it down share it. Don't let future generations feel like they just came from the mist with no roots to feel connected to..

Weekend Shenanigans

Sami's Shenanigans

I am not sure where the weekend went man they do fly by.  Friday I picked up my new phone - I ended up going with the Galaxy 4 and having them turn off the eye recognition features. So far I am loving the 4 - its a lot of fun to play with.

Saturday I got up and hit the gym pretty hard. Then off to do some shopping. Saturday night we went to dinner and a movie with my sister in law and brother in law. Saw World War Z ... most of that movie is an intense on the edge of your seat kinda movie. I was shocked that I actually enjoyed it as I am not in the whole zombie thing.

Part way through the movie however my stomach started to bother me and has not quit. Its really strange its pretty sore and gets worse if I eat.. At least its not as bad today as it was over the weekend.

Sunday I had paperwork at the office to do which took a few hours - then I slide my ass into a pedicure chair and ended with an hour and a half pedi. So worth it.
Then we headed over to Princess Peeps and saw and hung out with Lil man for a few hours.  He's getting so big and looks just like a little man.  After that we headed home and my mom came over for a bit.

How was your weekend??

WOW What a Weekend

I'd call for a mulligan but I'm afraid it would get worse..

Friday night we just chilled at home with a pizza and a Redbox rental and  fixed The Hubs laptop - his browser had been hijacked by a search engine tool bar (nasty ass things).

Saturday evening we went to my sister in laws to chill hang up friends and play video's - was going really well until 10:20 pm when I got a call from my mom saying she had fallen and needed help. I made a 20 minute drive in about 10 minutes. Got home (she was at my house watching lil man) and she had fallen keeping lil man from falling through the gate dividing the kitchen and living room.

Her glass are bent to hell and back - they have cut her face pretty good - she had to have 9 stitches - right by her eye, and her eye is black. Honestly it looks like she went 5 rounds with Mike Tyson.

Sunday I ran mom's car back to her (I had to driver her to the ER in her car, mine sits to low for her) then headed to my office for a few hours of work.  Then just vegged - I'm wore out.  I should have cleaned house but meh - just did not have the energy - I had picked up a little on Saturday so that's just going to have to do - I am positive no elf is going to sneak and do it so it will be waiting for me.

I have not gotten a workout in all weekend - back at it Monday.

How was your weekend??

Superbowl recipe link up

The Superbowl is when a cheat day is needed diet wise.  I generally make Beer Cheese Soup which is served with Roast Beef Sandwiches - though one year we have Philly Cheesesteaks with it (hence the cheat day). There are a ton of recipes out there for Beer Cheese Soup - I find the simpler ones the better the soup - and forget that whole garnish with popcorn BS - nice big croutons are where its at...

This wonderful recipe for Beer Cheese Soup can be kept warm in a 3-1/2 to 4 quart crockpot if you stir it frequently.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup minced celery
  • 1 cup minced carrots
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 10 oz. bottle beer (non alcoholic works just fine)
  • 10 oz. can condensed chicken broth
  • 3 cups grated sharp Cheddar cheese
  • white cheese popcorn

Preparation:

In heavy stockpot, saute celery, carrots, and onion in butter until tender, 4-5 minutes. Add flour and cook with a wire whisk, stirring constantly, until mixture bubbles, 4-5 minutes. Add half and half, beer, and chicken broth. Cook and stir until thickened, about 10 minutes. Then add cheese, salt and pepper and cook until soup is blended and cheese is melted. Serves 6

Whats in your bag??

Beth over at Shug in Boots has asked Whats In Your Bag - thankfully at the moment not much as I just got this bag for Christmas and its pretty compact due to the design it stay's cleaned out..

This was a gift from my wonderful sister-in-law for Christmas

It has my make up bag, wallet and checkbooks (yes 2 one personal and one household. Keys, a pen, chapstick, and a pink electronic cigarette with vanilla refill bottle for the e-cig.  The zippered pocket holds odds and ends like my keycard to get in my office building after hours  band aids a ticket stub to Breaking Dawn Part 2 (no judging!) and allergy tabs.

Make up bag essentials - more chap stick, 2 lip glosses powder, eye liner and a glass cleaning cloth.

Wallet is a Kenneth Cole tri-open - Love this thing I just am still getting used to opening several flaps to find what I am looking for LOL..

So what's in YOUR bag??

It was the end of the world that wasn't ....

So we are still here the earth is still rotating and the doomsdayers are figuring out a way to spin the latest "Oh wait we did the math wrong".  In all reality it was just the end of an era and the start of a new one.  So I am glad I paid my credit card bills and didn't consume three times my body weight in cheesecake "just in case".

What I am working on is finishing up Christmas shopping on this last weekend before the holiday.  I just had a few gifts and stocking stuffers to pick up - which I got most of done today.  I have to go back to the craft store after price checking to pick up the second to last gift, then head back to the mall (yes I went to the mall on the Saturday before Christmas - I am truly insane) to pick up a last minute OMG its perfect gift that will be ready.

Friday my wonderful grandson turned 7 months old - wow this year is going super fast.  I can't believe he is already 7 months old and growing like a weed.  Unfortunately the lil guy is sick with RSV at the moment so we are playing Christmas by ear and waiting to see if he will be well enough to go to the family dinner at my sister-in-laws.  Fingers are crossed that he feels better soon - if for nothing else the poor guy is miserable.  It amazes me that with as sick as he is, he is still smiling and laughing - he is such a laid back lil dude.

On the fitness front I am just maintaining at the moment and will ramp back up come Jan 2.  I am by no means going crazy and eating everything in sight but I am eating a lil of whatever I want. Then come Jan 2 its balls to the walls at the gym - newest goal is toning.  I am not going to hide come this summer in jeans and oversized shirts - its to freaking hot for that shit.  Plus we are planning another family trip to Hawaii come Spring of 2015 and I WILL like the pictures I am in this time around of the vacation!

I also have plans to start working my knee again and it get back in order so that I can participate in the Diva Dash come March - its one of my favorite 5ks.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!! Happy Holidays

The week wrap up

WOW what a week.. I knew it was going to be I just didn't know HOW much of a week it was.

Let me back up to Thanksgiving...  Had a blast with the fam. I did watch what I ate but I ate what I wanted if that makes sense.  Then I vegged out with my SIL (ok hid out from the football, back in her bedroom) ...  watched tv, shopped on line and scoped the BF (Black Friday) ad's for the next day.

For the first time ever I actually did shop BF. I went to Kohl's and made a killing. I managed to get a little over $600 in clothes (for me :-) I really needed them) for a little over $200 and I got $65 in Kohl's cash AND they mailed me a 20 % off coupon for this week - so I am headed there tonight to finish up.

The rest of the weekend was uneventful, I cleaned the heck out of my house and got some order restored there and pretty much thought I was getting ready for the next week. 4 am Monday morning however found The Hubs and I in the ER where he was admitted to the hospital where he stayed until last night. Glad to have him home now!!

Wednesday I hit my goal weight... It took a few hours for me to realize this however with everything that was going on. I weighed that morning added it to the groups weight for the holiday challenge then a few hours later I went HOLD ON A SECOND.. I MADE GOAL WOOHOOO!!!!!

My knee is doing wonderfully so I am gearing up to start actually working out again, my goal now is to be toned.  Jillian Ripped in 30 here I come!!!

Yesterday I got the presale code for concert tickets .... not just any concert BON JOVI!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have wanted to see Bon Jovi live since I was 15 years old ... so this is one of those bucket list things. I am beyond excited, I am like one of those little chihuahua dogs who's gets so excited to see you they pee on your foot.  The concert is not until April so I can see the excitement level only going up from here.

This weekend I am hoping to just chill - I am at the level just above exhausted and need some downtime.  What are your weekend plans??

Lordy what a two weeks its been..

Sorry it has been over two weeks - life happened. We have been super busy and now getting in to the Holiday fury.. (Pictures to follow) Its also 4 am and I can't sleep so here is the way late and long winded update..

Week before last family was in town, my Earnie (my ex), Laura (his wife) and my 3 godsons were here to finally meet Lil Man and visit the fam (they have had a lot of stuff come up and this was the first chance they have had to make the 12 hour drive). Its been a few years since we were all together.

We had a good time catching up and just hanging out - I can't believe how much the godson's have grown - yeah yeah I KNEW they were older but having it in your face is totally different!! LOL.  Friday night Laura Peep and I went to the piano bar and we had a blast - I may have rediscovered my love affair with some absolute and cranberry (goes down smooth LOL).  The piano bar is always a good time.  This hot mama also got hit on by a very drunk very lewd guy in a suit that was there for a bachelor party or something - his lines were pitiful but it was an ego boost never the less..

Saturday we all ventured to the WW1 war museum in town and had an equally good time - My oldest godson and his dad are huge military enthusiasts - which has roots in the fact that all the families on all the sides have HUGE military histories - we all have veterans in the family tree.  We came back home and Laura made us a wonderful dinner of Marsala chicken - The Hubs and I promptly ate all the leftovers the next day for lunch! Laura and I may have done some shopping that weekend as well *wink*

Sunday they had to leave early to start the long ass drive home - it was a short visit but jam packed with fun and laughs. Lil Man also turned 5 months old Sunday

Also the my new wedding set came in (we were waiting on the band) and I am loving it - Thank you Hubs your the BEST - true ROCK STAR..

Last weekend was the gangs annual Halloween party hosted by good friends of ours. I may have continued my vodka love affair that night as well (I am not a lush and rarely drink I just happened to do it 2 weekends in a row.. Hell until this past Saturday The Hubs, and my sister and brother in law and all of our friends have NEVER seen me under the influence -  and Hubs and I have been together almost 12 years)

This past Tuesday (10/30/12) was the Madonna concert - it was an experience in one of my long time faves turning her music in to concept art. Over all I enjoyed it but really wished there were a few more of the early hits. I realize its been 25 years and shes grown artistically and has a new album out - but a true rendition of Like a Virgin would have made my night!!!

Yesterday - Friday I had my knee surgery - its going pretty well - swollen and I have a partial beidadine tan on my left leg and a HUGE bandage and wrap - but all that will go away soon enough and I can get back to getting active!! I am missing working out (whoa did I say that?? Who IS this chick??)

This weekend I plan to rest and attempt to vote early tomorrow - we need to a little grocery shopping but my main plan is to be bff's with the couch and the DVR..

Now for the pictures

5 Months - we have teeth!

 Grandpa and Lil Man
Lil Man and his Uncles (my Godsons)

Post surgery - be kind to your knees!!

Half way there!!!

As of yesterday morning I am half way to my fitness goal so I bought myself a present .. Can NOT wait until they get here..

At present time I am in 2 challenges - one of which due to illness I am WAY behind - however you are not supposed to work out when your sick "below the neck", since I am coughing up anything and everything I have yet to be able to get back to my 31 day Jillian challenge - or in my case the 1 day Jillian challenge ~ that I totally effin rocked LOL.

The second is a Holiday Fitness challenge to keep us motivated through Thanksgiving - this one is done in teams of 5 ladies. At the end there are prizes so I am so hoping we kick ass!!

This next week is going to be fairly busy we have family coming in on Thursday.  I am hoping the weather holds and it doesn't get to cold so we can get out and enjoy some of the fall events around the city.

Have a great weekend!!

Family Drama .. does it EVER end??

Its really no secret that I have 3 sisters and a niece I never speak to.. Each for individual reasons.  None of them attempt to reenter into my life and I don't go stirring up theirs. It works - hell at this point I am pretty sure that unless our mother mentions me my name is not on their lips - I like it that way.

I know its odd and most people are "my sister is my bestie" meh not mine - and honestly a lot of that is because I am the baby and I am a late in life baby - my sisters were pretty much all out of the house when I made my surprising entrance so there was no bonding. I'm ok it, we come for totally different generations and frankly even though they grew up on the 60's those baby boomers are pretty judgmental creatures. I am very close to my sister in law and get my "sister time" with her.

My niece on the other hand even though she is not in my life decides every few years she needs to stir the pot.. lil witch did it again this weekend.  Honestly does this shit end? Whats the purpose? Why do people make shit up spread rumors then sit back in shock while several family members are hurt, upset and riled up?? As doctor Phil would say whats the pay off for you? My part of the family has left you alone - there is not poking of the witch we do our own thing yet you feel the need to surface every once in awhile waving your bitch flag and stirring the pot.

Do all families have issues similar? If there is someone you cut out of your life do they resurface every few years disrupt things then go into the wings until the next time??

Hey Hey its Friday!!! Week recap

I seriously need a title generator!! I think the next one is going to be insert title here.

Sorry I have been missing all week - I went and landed me a cold that quickly turned into a sinus infection.. Which has been the norm ever since my sinus surgery a few years back (appx 6) - worst surgery EVER  I really wished I had never consented to having it done. I still have the migraine headaches and now if you sneeze on me -  bam I have a sinus infection.

I got in a Yoga meltdown workout in on Monday but that has been it for the week due to the illness.. Yoga Meltdown wow - the only thing I can say there is HOLY ROLLING SIDE PLANKS BATMAN!!  I am looking forward to getting back at it though after my head clears a bit more.. This weekend I will hit the treadmill and work up from there .

Last night we met up with family who had come in from out of state - Its always fun seeing Aunt June - Then The Hubs took me over to get new jeans mine were to big!! Found 2 pairs of skinny jeans that are a size smaller!! WOOT That always makes for a good day.

My knee surgery has been scheduled for Nov 2nd then I have about 6 weeks were I have to take it easy  - so no jumping rope or running (2 things I HATE lol).

That's how my week went - how was yours??

And its the last official week of summer

I am not sure who decided this is labeled the last week of summer, but for the social season it is... I know there are a lot of people who are thrilled - it was a brutally hot summer here this year. I for one am NOT one of those people. I don't yearn for fall. Summer is my favorite - I love jeans and tank tops - you can have your sweaters and boots. According to the actual calendar the first day of fall is September 22.  I will celebrate labor day gleefully (its helps I took an extra vacation day) because I LOVE day's off and get togethers with friends and family but its still summer damnit!! :-)

Weekend redux

Friday night we went to dinner and then hit the couch to read (me) and play video games (the hubs).

Saturday Hubs changed the oil in my car for me - thanks honey Zoomy really needed it.  I went out with friends that night and had a blast - we hit a bar and grill for some really good food. Next was the wine tasting  where I bought a bottle of the sweet wine they were showing - it was some pretty good stuff - I do believe that maybe my labor day drink of choice. Then we hit a patio bar where we sat drank and bs-ed for hours. After which we headed to G-Town to bs for a few more hours.. My head finally hit the pillow about 1 am.

Sunday was the usual errands and grocery shopping followed by comfy clothes on the couch to bitch about whats not on TV until 8 when True Blood comes on :-) - that episode last night was whacked - effing cliff hangers!

I didn't persay watch what I eat this weekend but I did make sure I didn't go bat shit crazy any eat everything that wasn't nailed down. My motto is you still have to enjoy life - if you are not enjoying it then whats the point??

a few pictures from the weekend ..

Yay Friday!!!

Been looking forward to you for days now. Its date night with the Hubs - we are trying out a local German restaurant tonight - made reservations and everything!! I'm looking forward to a date again.

Not much for written in stone plans this weekend - we tend to always end up doing something though.  I do have a few bags of clothes that must go to the Goodwill. I'm tired of them being in the corner behind my bedroom door.  We need to take Lil Man's bassinet to a consignment shop as well - its hanging out in the entryway - no wonder I feel cluttered and blocked it!

Worked out Tues and Thursday of this week - will hit the gym tomorrow afternoon.  I am contemplating trying to do some ab stuff or yoga during lunch at work. I rarely leave my office for lunch - I generally eat at my desk and either surf the net or read.  I am fortunate to have both the space and an honest to goodness office with a door that closes! I may test the waters next week and see how it goes - lots of time I end up working but maybe if I shut the door and stick an "at lunch" sign on it.. Hell I may even bring my stuff in here and do my 30 day shred's or yoga after hours when everyone else is gone!!

Anyone else try working out in their office at lunch or after hours??

Weekend Wrap up

It was a semi productive semi relaxing weekend..

Friday I got caught up with my Sister-in-law who was out of town for a week.. Hussy up and went road tripping on me.. Before hitting her house though we stopped at Jack-in-the-Box and that was my undoing.. I had an ultimate bacon cheese burger... Honestly it wasn't even worth the calorie count..

Saturday I deep cleaned the kitchen and picked up the living room then we went that evening and hung out with friends and family until 1 am.  I did way better at watching what I ate Saturday, even with a get together tossed in there.  I also did not let myself get as hungry as I did Friday night which led to the melt down of cheeseburger.

Sunday I vacuumed the living room with in and inch of its life and watched TV.. I babysat lil man that night while his Mama went out to the dinner theater with her Nana.  I did a lot better with what I ate Sunday.  My Fitness Pal yelled at me for not eating enough - but with Friday nights over do it I figure it balances.

Hit the scale today and it had not budged - which considering Friday I am thankful it didn't go in the wrong direction.  Also I didn't really work out much this past week. SOOO with saying that ...........

This weeks goals are: at least 100oz of water a day. Working out 3 times this week and being mindful of what I am eating and when as to not get so hungry I eat everything not nailed down...

Digital disconnecting

Ever "unplug" or go "off the grid" totally for an extended period of time? Did you go all the way or just dial back on certain things?

I am contemplating disconnecting from a few things to regain some order, some time and maybe some sanity.     I am not one of those people who will just delete Facebook and walk away - let's face it I love my Facebook - but I am thinking of banning the games on there. I don't play many - but they are starting to feel like a second job. What started as a way to relax gets insane. Things wilt if you do not water them in time, certain things are only available to collect on certain days - WTF?  I have enough deadlines in 3d land now digital media wants me to have more ENOUGH!!

As far as my cell phone goes and being connected to email 24 7 - that'a a given with my job and that doesn't bother me.  What bothers me is if I don't answer the phone right way for people in my personal life they leave a voice mail, then text then call again - starting the cycle over. I get it you have something to say but maybe for the moment I can't give you my full attention. I have been known to do the same thing so I get it. I am however working on getting better at it. I don't really leave voicemails though as everyone I know hates checking them so if I do get your voicemail I will hang up and text you - to call me back  or what have you.

I always thought cellphones were for the owners convenience - anymore they are the owners leash.  We are SO connected that its nothing to see a whole family together - all on a portable device doing their own thing and not really checking in with each other - no wonder no one really knows whats going on in their own family. I believe dinner time should be gadget free time.

I strive to get back to the family dinner reconnect. Maybe in the near future I will be able to totally disconnect for a weekend....

The end of a semi-relaxed weekend

I didn't do much of anything... Friday night I went to bed fairly early for a Friday as I was tired as hell after only get 5 hours of the sleep the night before.

Saturday I really just vegged - beside a trip to Wal-Mart to get essentials and J's crib as he is quickly outgrowing his bassinet.  I can't believe hes 2 months old already. Saturday night Ms. Peep went to hang out with friends and took J with her.  Hubby went to go visit our brother in law hang out and drink beer. I had a date with the DVR and really bad insomnia - bed time for me was 5 am - I spent the night catching up on reality TV and tearing recipes out of Cook Light magazines.

Sunday I pattered around the house watched more TV then hit the local Mexican restaurant and target.  Came home and settled in for some TrueBlood..

This week I need to get back into the swing of the gym - its been so hot here that by the time I am done with the day I am really done with the day - I have no energy to cook either! Dinner for me most nights has been a bowl of cereal..

I am down another pound from last week - I'll take it considering I had a few cheat days and my activity level is down.

So apparently I have died and left millions to "my business associate"

I was cleaning out my junk mail box when I stumbled upon an email wishing to urgently confirm from me if I know a John Campbell who claims to be my business partner and associate.. He wishes that I would reconfirm an application submitted to the Office of the Minister of Finance that I died and upon that death I wished that Mr. Campbell would become my beneficiary..

HAHA newest Prince of Nigeria scam has been born. I will say that being in the IT industry I find these down right hysterical and read them with glee - I do however, realize that some people out there find them to be the down right truth and and that is how the crooks make money. Honestly though if you will stop and read them you can spot the scam and save yourself and/or family members a lot of pain, grief and bankruptcy filings.

Here is are two paragraphs from the letter ..

For your Information, this Government has approved the total amount of TWO MILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS ONLY, in your favor, prior to the Federal Government instructions/mandate to offset all outstanding payments to the various legal

Equally he had agreed to settle and offset the funds release charges. You should note that, if we do not hear from you, we automatically assume that you are actually dead and the information passed to us by John Campbell is correct. H

No I didn't cut off a word those last two sentences, they just stop like that.  The random capitalization is tip  off - there is no reason information should be capitalized its the middle of the sentence.

The letter goes on to tell me that I need to reply back to the email - and gives me a different address to email with some personal information to dispute my death - if I fail to do so they have no choice but to believe Mr. Campbell declare me dead and hand him the money.

HA not so fast Mr. Campbell, even though you are giving me an address for Citibank in PA your email reads like a foreign county - which has no right to declare me deceased, for another thing only my next of kin can file paperwork to declare me dead 5 years AFTER I officially go missing.  I assure you I am not dead or missing. Lastly I don't have 2 mill to declare you or anyone the beneficiary of if I did I'm really sure my husband would have issues with you collecting so go fish elsewhere!!

I do think they way they ended the email was a nice touch ...

We await your swift response in regard to this news we received.

Thanks. God Loves and Bless you and your family.
Yours Faithfully,
FRED BAKARE.

Thursday Musings - 6 Weeks into Stay at Home Orders

I seriously can not believe we have been "sheltering in place" for 6 freaking weeks now, and I say this as an "I'd rather...
