2014 In Review

Honestly I will be glad when 2014 gets the boot in the ass..  it wasn't ALL bad but 2014 by far, is going down in the history books of our life as one of the most trying.

This year saw a lot of big milestones, our 10 year wedding anniversary, my 40th birthday, the 5 year anniversary of my fathers passing. My nieces first birthday. Every day brings something new Lil Man can do or say.  He never fails to crack me up. Lately he tells everyone he can see their tukus. Something I said to him as he was streaking down the hall after a bath!  The other night I told him it was bedtime - he promptly said "No thank you" and when I insisted it was in fact his bedtime - he put me in time out!

2014 is also the year of the "plot twists" in our journey of this life. D was unemployed for awhile then totally changed career fields after 14 year of banking. Peep and Lil Man moved in with us. That itself is a reality show in the makings.  I will say I have now been in both sets of shoes. The adult child moving back home and the parent having her adult child move home. Don't care who is wearing the shoes - it all sucks.

This year I learned who the people I could count on were, who I could lean on when I just needed a moment and those who I just can't. I learned who in my life really really wanted to see me do well and who just wanted to have ring side seats for a really hard year in my life.

No matter what there will always be someone who delights in just piling more on when you are clearly ready to crack, cloaking it in "keeping it real, telling you how it is". Truth of the matter is when you are down, and that is the moment they choose to pop up and say well what about me, and start to air grievances that they have with you as a person or how you are functioning in that moment, then get pissed when you get upset is the moment their tickets need cancelled.

Some good things happened as well, I received a promotion at work and had my 4th anniversary with the company. The company is growing by leaps and bounds and it looks as though we have a really good team assembled now. D is now working for a good company with potential to move up in the ranks.  He no longer comes home daily upset about work and his boss.  Sunday nights, while still not a favorite are no longer dreaded.  My back finally seems to be on the mend.  I am hoping that really is the case and I can get back to the gym.

Starting tomorrow afternoon I am on vacation for the last week of 2014. I for one see it as a hard earned vacation, I am hoping to get some rest, workout, laugh some and catch up with friends who have been patiently waiting for my life to slow down some.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday - no matter what you celebrate, do it with the ones you love. Stop and take everything in for a second. Who know what changes tomorrow will bring you.

I'll leave you with my end of the year favorite songs - pretty much all Maroon 5's newest album right now.. Right now that is my absolute favorite album - its on continuous repeat in my car and office..

Confessions & End of Year Housekeeping

I have started cleaning up my digital world.. My work email inbox has a little over 17K email in it.. We won't get into my junk email account (yahoo) and my personal gmail accounts.  I have been going through my Facebook friends list as well. Anyone there that I didn't know real well or only knew because of a game I played a long time ago or a group I was in I unfriended.  If I don't know you and wouldn't go have drinks with you then you really shouldn't be on my friends list.

On the flip side even if i do know and have had drinks with you before, if you are a negative personality or constantly seek drama I am working on distancing myself from you as well.  I have enough drama that I deal with on a daily basis I don't need more.

I am also starting to go through and remove clutter from my house.  I have started telling my mom no on gifting me things - she will call and ask me if there is something I want that used to belong to my dad. Depending on what it is, yes I want it.

A few years ago the answer to that question was YES no matter what it was. We are now 5 years out from his death and the dust is settling and I will now occasionally say no, and she will say but it was your DADS.  Yes mom but that doesn't automatically mean that I should save everything, you can toss his pocket lint. I promise it will be okay.  Given that yes was always the answer until this year I have quite a few things that maybe I don't need. I will keep the stuff that invokes special memories for me of my dad or a time we spent together and donate the rest.

Christmas is next week and I need to get shopping UGH! I have no clue what to get my mom - okay I never do.

I really just want to sleep for a week.

I am on vacation the week after Christmas - well I am out of the office. To make it a real vacation I'd have to run away from home for a week... hmmmm there IS a nice hotel not far from here......

This hands down is my favorite light display - I want one day and my neighbors will HATE me..

I didn't watch the last 4 weeks of The Voice. I just got so busy, then so far behind..

I'd really really like to have my house to myself again.

I'd really like for someone to remember I am doing them a favor and not be treated poorly, or talked to nasty. I'm tired of snotty tones, I'm tired of being yelled at, I'm tired of no one else needs, thoughts or opinions mattering.

That running away idea sounds better and better..........

Dude Where'd my Week Go?

Last week was a strange week. Coming out of the weekend and our company Christmas party half the company got food poisoning. So last week was spent with 4 of us up and working while the rest of the company wondered what evil got a hold of them .

Thursday night D and I went to the Mythbuster Behind the Myth show. I grabbed tickets about 5 months ago as a Christmas present for him. If you get a chance to see the show and science is your thing don't hesitate just GO it was an awesome show and possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Before the show we hit up Flying Saucers for dinner and drinks - its a German pub tucked in a corner of downtown.  Neither of us had heard of it before - and D's a native so that sucker is hidden well. I get why. The regulars  probably don't want to lose "their" bar. Its a neat little place with some great craft beer and food. I can't wait to go back and try some of their bratwurst platters!

Friday I had taken the day off from work - most of the day I hung out with the cutest lil boy in the world. I did run a few errands the few hours he was with his Great Grandma but most of the day we snuggled down on the couch and watch Christmas Specials on NickJr all day.

The weekend was pretty much just hanging with Lil Man..  Saturday evening he hung out with Craig and D and I had dinner and hung out with friends until it was time to pick up Peep from work at 1 am. Sunday we took him for lunch at Burger King then over to the mall to the play area and Zonkers to ride the train. Unfortunately Sunday evening we had a short stop at the local ER.

Leaving the mall Lil Man did NOT want to go so he did the toddler thing and decided to just go limp as Papaw and I had his hands crossing the parking lot. He ended up with whats called Nursemaid's Elbow. The Doctor at the Er was beyond fab. He actually came out to the waiting room popped his arm back into place. Lil Man then high fived him and said "wow I feels all betters now". It was instant. The doctor then said I will have them take you out of the system like you were never here Merry Christmas..

We then hit Cold Stone Creamery for ice cream for dinner, because well an ER visit of course!!!

A few weekend pics!

Friday night - I rarely wear lipstick much less red..

The train he did NOT want to leave

Ahhh all betters - even more so with a chocolate dipped waffle bowl!

I've left again with a flashlight to find my even because I can't!

Better known as Thursday's Shit I don't Understand..

Gwyneth Paltrow good lord that women is such an uptight pretentious bitch.  Gwynie and her Goop can go stick it.. Personally I hope Martha Stewart hot glues you into oblivion - and I don't like her either so whats that tell you.

Using slang after you turn 25, you don't sound hip, you sound obnoxious. By the way bae really doesn't mean what you think it does - but you are actually calling your number 1 the Danish word for poop.  Go ahaed keep calling the love of your life that - I'll keep laughing like a 4th grade boy over it.

Radio stations that start playing Christmas music 24 hours a day 7 days a week - the day of Thanksgiving. No wonder I can't stand hearing any of it anymore.

That everyone on Facebook and Twitter suddenly have law degrees.

That the internet is STILL talking about Kim Kardashian's naked ass on the cover of Paper  - seriously it wasn't THAT impressive, we have all seen it on several other occasions. The meme's resulting from it however - pure GOLD.

Holiday Weekend Shenangans

Seriously wasn't it?  Busy long weekend at my house.. Wednesday I worked from home while the car was in the repair shop - almost a freaking grand later... Cracked radiator and a stuck thermostat.

Thursday I cooked a turkey dinner for our house - Mya had to work that day at 4:45 and my sister in law wasn't doing the regular family dinner until 6 so I cooked for Mya and my Mom who didn't want to travel out that late - she's 72 she gets pass- got our dinner cooked and served then started cooking what I needed to go over to my sister in law's.  Lil Man had a blast with his cousins and ran non stop for about 3 hours.  We got home and he pretty much just passed out for the night.

The rest of the weekend we pretty much just chilled - I did not go shopping Black Friday I did grab a few things Saturday after I went to get my hair done. Then grabbed Lil Man some stuff when I dropped his mom off for work Sunday.

D and I snuck in a movie Saturday night. We went to see Intersteller.  Its a long movie - 2 hours and 48 minutes - honestly the last 48 minutes are a total mind fuck. We left saying "Did I really just see that" and "huh".

Sunday was just a chill day - most of it spent like this...
