The One Where the Weekend Needed a Speeding Ticket

As weekends tend to do it went by way to fast.. It was a quick but expensive one!! I needed new tires and an oil change on the Jeep.. OUCH, thankfully tires are only a every few years thing. I am also glad that times are changing and places will not mount and balance tires not purchased there. I went to Tirerack.com for them got a great deal and then had CarX put them on.

I am on break between terms and waiting not so patiently for my final grades to post.  I know I did well but I want to see what my GPA is. School is totally different when you are paying for it! In highschool I prayed that grades would get lost now I am like ok term ended where is my GPA!!! I want it NOW!

We did some odds and ends around the house, replaced the backdoor knob and lock, changed out the porch light and installed a new motion sensor light at the garage. The house got cleaned, the kitchen cabinets were organized - ok the top ones, next weekend I'll sit on the floor and to get to the bottom ones. The bathroom cabinet was redone as well and the hall linen closet is on next weekends hitlist as well as taking things to the storage unit. I have movers scheduled for the first weekend in March to clear my stuff out of my apartment.

The lease isn't up until the end of March but for the first time ever in a move I don't have to wait to the last minute and make myself nuts with the move out and cleaning of the old space, so I am not going to. Hiring two guys for two hours to just load the U-haul was not expensive and I don't have to take crap down 3 flights of stairs. Most of it is going into the storage unit so we are doing the unload ourselves. When we get the house sold and we are ready to move into our new one (when we find it) we are hiring movers again. After that I do not plan to move again for a long time.

Do you realize that in 3 weeks it is time to alter time again? March 8th we spring ahead 1 hour again, bringing with that warmer weather!! I am so ready. I am tired of being cold, I am tired of wearing 50 layers and a damn coat. I am tired of the grey gloomy blah that is outside. I can not wait to be warm again when I go outside and to NOT drive home in the dark!!

Spring is SO close!!!

Is January over YET???????

Don't go away mad just go away already!!  I'm ready to go on to longer days, warmer weather

I have two more weeks left of this quarter in school, I have 2 HUGE finals - each are 3 hours and a final project due for LS 100..

Apparently the Superbowl is this weekend, which I did not even realize we were this close to it. Frankly if we are being honest my Christmas tree and decor are still up - I keep looking at it thinking, okay I have to put this stuff away but then I end up back into a school book thinking meh who fricken cares - the cat is thrilled to still be batting the lower branches for funzies. I also think its time to retire the tree its has better days, but I don't know what exact to do with it. Do you toss an artificial tree? Does it recycle? If it does where does one take their old artificial tree, and since I have yet to figure that out it helps justify that its still up HA! The one at the house is down and everything put up - except the lights outside. Its just my apartment that is still fully decking the halls.

We did manage to do a small overhaul on the bathroom at the house last weekend. We had the tub refinished, put up a new tub surround - side note am I the only one on the planet who had no clue just how flimsy those things really are?? New things went up as well I have my steampunk bathroom finally! The shelf is still being finished as well as new towel holders then I'll toss pictures up here.

When I take rent in on the 1st of February I will also turn in my notice to vacate on March 29th. This past 2 years have flown by. It seems like both yesterday and a lifetime ago that I signed the lease and picked up the keys to my first on my very own apartment sat in the middle of the empty living room on the floor looked around and thought holy shit now what.

I guess I am ready to go in more ways than just waving January goodbye...

At Least its Only Every 4 Years or So

Move is done - and the house is 90% unpacked and put away. Thank goodness - I am sore and have more unaccounted for bruises than I care to mention. I woke up yesterday with my right hand swollen three times its normal size... I am thrilled to just be about done -  only a few more boxes to go.

There are a few things I have learned about moving having done it once or twenty times in my lifetime.

There is always one box that never gets unpacked - it get put in a closet with the intent of "getting to it later" later never comes that box will just move from house to house with you.

Once you get where you are going and start to unpack you will purge more as you find there isn't anywhere to place the treasured item. You will wonder why on earth you bothered to pack it and completely forget that as you packed it, you declared it an item that you would NEVER part with. You will toss it in a box to go to the trash  without a second look. This moment is when the REAL purging happens.

Your husband becomes completely aware of how much makeup you actually own.

He will also see your handbag collection all at once...

No matter how carefully you label boxes there will be something you can't find and need for work the following Monday (or in my case Tuesday). You will end up repurchasing what ever item it is and then find it the next day.

Never move during February. Its cold, it makes the whole experience worse.

Icy hot patches are a gift from above. Purchase a box of them - apply liberally.

When our lease is up NEXT February - I am thinking an 18 month lease needs to be brought up...

Thursday Random Tidbits

I hate moving, its a pain in the ass. This time the possibility of it being a huge pain in the ass is high. There's a winter storm due in Saturday. Please just NO. My to-do list keeps getting longer. I forgot to call the sewage company to change service addresses. There is also the bank and my credit card company.. Oh and I have to go get a new microwave. The current place has an under the range hood model - I think they would be pissed if I relocated it!

In the midst of trying to pack and get situated my mothers fridge decided it was also tired of being cold and gave up. I had my father in law go look at it. He declared it toast. The valves in the compressor went out.  So mom got a new fridge from us for her birthday..  Thus starting a new round of being angry at my dad for leaving my mother in less than stellar financial shape..  Review your life insurance policies people - make sure it covers your shit and leaves your family with some breathing room.

Next week my Peep is having another procedure done to try to figure out whats going on with her. I really wished someone would figure something out soon.. All the guesses are maddening.  She just had a scope 2 weeks ago.

Since January I have had 3 close friends start the steps to ending their long term marriages. One of which is over 20 years.  Another is within my immediate family.  That one has been rough. Not surprising, but wow its been a ride.
I stumbled across this Elephant Journal article while surfing their web page. I think it explains things perfectly.  Most of their articles either inspire a "ah-ha" from me or a smile. It is a daily read of mine.

Its really starting to bother me seeing EVERYONE staring at their phones ALL THE DAMN TIME anymore. I am at the point where I am sick of being in a group, having a conversation and people are checking facebook or twitter or texting. Put the fucking phone away. Engage with the people who are there with you physically, if you wanted to scroll facebook why the hell are you making plans with people 3D?  Just stop!

Remember what you did BEFORE smartphones and facebook, yeah that - do more of THAT.  Oh and by the way - ignoring who you are sitting across from at a social gathering to be on your phone is RUDE. Your mama would be pissed!

Bright spot of the week thus far - this finally came and its bright! Now I just have to find a matching wallet!!

Have a great day! Go do something that does NOT include your phone!!

Titles Smitiles

Yep one of those I have no clue on a title days - so theres that..

Its been a busy week around the office. Visiting Executives and all. Its also been a pretty good week. My week was totally made last night though with a visit with my favorite lil guy. It had been 3 weeks since I had seen him so I had a ton of hugs and kisses saved up for him.

He and Papaw immediately set to building a wall and tower with his mega blocks..

This one is my favorite - I asked him what he was doing and he loudly said building walls. Papaw and I are building!!

My dinner with the girls tonight has been postponed, though Angie and I are still going to get together and get a pedicure this evening and chill out..

Tomorrow I HAVE to start packing - we move in two weeks and being out of commission sick for 3 weeks has really put things in a rush.  Its not going to be easy considering it is supposed to be close to 70 degrees out tomorrow!!!

Goals for this weekend:

get the donation stuff out of the house
get the non-essential stuff in boxes
get to the gym.

Wednesday Confessions

Wow its midweek already!

Wednesday confessions:

I am thrilled January is over - it was an emotionally rough month for several people I care deeply about - I am glad its over.

February is a month I both love and hate... I hate it because its still cold but love, love that its only 28 days long.. BRING ON MARCH!  That statement never fails to crack my mother up.

Peep and little man have moved back up this way and in with her ex. All this back and forth is making me nervous. Though I do hope that Little Man is happier being back this way. Apparently he was NOT out at the farm and let his mother know loudly and often.  He told her he wanted to go HOME. Poor lil guy missed his people.  We missed him as well.

Monday night we lit the fireplace for the first time this winter - and possibly the last before we move.  It was the first because we didn't want to light it with Lil Man running around. The last because I have traded a fireplace for a walk in closet LOL.. The new place doesn't have a fire place.. I'll miss yet I will LOVE having more space in the closet.

Hands down the BEST part of the Super Bowl last Sunday was Missy Elliot. Second - the fight at the end.. NFL went MMA!!! I will say having to explain the the tweens there just WHO Missy was a little off putting - geesh kids. The words "oh so like the first Iggy" made my eyes roll really hard.. Um NO - just NO.

I'm looking forward to Friday and getting together with the 'Mafia Girls for dinner - its been freaking ages since we have all been together.

I wore TOMS yesterday because it was 50 degree and I am sick of boots.  Snow is expected today.

I abhor the term BAE and really wished people knew its Danish for poop - so you're actually calling your loved one poop ... way to go!

Its Wednesday???

I have lost the entire beginning of this week being sick. I woke up this morning to it being Wednesday and wondering where the hell the days went. I have been down and out for the count since Sunday.  I am now feeling better, but tired as hell. I needed a nap by the time I got to the office this morning!  Last week I ended up with pink eye.. I swear I am getting a bubble suit.

On the upside - I really don't eat when I am sick so there went 4 pounds!! Downside, I'm exhausted and it shows. Today is a struggle to just keep my eyes opened. Plus I have this wonderful cough that sounds like I'm a life long coal miner and my nose in now peeling after going through a box of Kleenex in just 24 hours..

Before I caught the martian death cold I had gotten some packing started. The donation pile is up to a trash bag and a few items in a box. I have not yet hit my closet yet so the pile will grow.  I also have a metric shit ton of kitchen items that need purged.  I'd really love to toss it ALL out and start over, but that is not feasible so.... However I do have a list of shit that is getting replaced starting with the couch!  The cat has -ahem - modified the upholstery on one leg.. The fabric/unfinished wood look isn't my thing! :-)

I will say in packing things up I have come across one of the only cards my dad gave me on his own, instead of the traditional mom buys a card for the occasion and signs it from both parents type of card. It is also one of the only times he ever wrote something more than "Love Dad" on anything. I have decided once the move is over and things are settled. I am taking that card to the tattoo shop and that is what is going on my wrist. I love that it will be something he wrote and in HIS hand writing.

That is the kinda stuff I do love finding when going through things. Tax returns from 15 years ago, not so much, a sappy love letter from when you started dating your spouse? Totally!  Unfortunately, more of what I have found so far hit the tax returns of 15 years ago category. My "to shred" pile is HUGE.  I have to go opt out of the pre-screened credit card offers and save a tree or fifteen!

I am trying to view all this as early Spring cleaning! Heads phones in, music on and dancing while I toss, shred and pack!

Cha Cha Changes

Hey there! Welcome to 2015.. I can NOT stay I'm sorry 2014 is gone!!! Whew fresh air!

Big changes coming around. First D and I are down sizing to a one bedroom apartment.  Peep and Lil Man are moving in with her finance' - yep fiance'. Three huge changes right there!

This ended up happening way before I thought it would. I honestly thought that I had until late this spring.. Nope,  surprise - lease is up late this winter. So we spent last weekend looking for a new place (and wedding dress shopping) and well I hate ALL the apartments. So, we are staying in the same complex just downsizing.

Which means this weekend is a cleaning purging weekend. I have things that I am finally ready to part with so off to Goodwill they go. I am also getting started on deep cleaning the current place so that move out cleaning won't be so bad.  I will miss the place - it has some upgraded features the other building doesn't have, but I am also looking forward to the next chapter.

5 years ago D and I had a one bedroom apartment, and honestly we had the best time. Cleaning was a breeze which freed up time to go hang with friends, play scrabble. Life was a little less rushed and hectic - I am really looking forward to that! It fits right in with one of my goals of simplifying, not being quite so rushed and frazzled.

Now to just get things tossed, donated or packed.. Anyone want to come do the heavy lifting???

Thursday Musings - 6 Weeks into Stay at Home Orders

I seriously can not believe we have been "sheltering in place" for 6 freaking weeks now, and I say this as an "I'd rather...
