New Challenge

Sorry this is so late today, its been a busy day so far.. Happy Halloween!!

My Father in law is still in the hospital - he had a filter inserted above the clot today. This allows the blood to flow but stops the clot in case it breaks free. Still saying prayers around here..

The sun is finally out after its rained all day yesterday and most of today.. so not a fan of drizzly, grey days. They are so depressing, I would never want to live in Seattle just for that reason.

Can I just say I can't believe tomorrow is November 1st .. SAY WHAT - already?? Don't blink Thanksgiving is almost here.. and the holiday season. Thing about that holiday season - it generally bites most of us in the ass then adds a few pounds to it!

It doesn't have to - in fact I lost weight last year during the holidays.  In an effort to do it again this year a few friends of mine and I are starting a holiday challenge. Novembers challenge will be Jillian's Ripped in 30 and clean(er) eating for the most part. Thanksgiving is a cheat day if you so desire..

My goal for this November is to lose a few and tone up while I clean up my diet. I started using My Fitness Pal again to just keep track of it all and make sure I am staying on the rails.  I did however put the scale away. When you first change up your workouts you can appear to put on weight because your muscles are holding on to water to protect them from the "damage" you are doing to them. That freaks/discourages people and the stop what they are doing with the thinking "it doesn't matter anyway I now weight MORE and look I was TRYING this time.

KEEP GOING at about the 3 week mark your muscles release the water and the change in number is rapid! It really is just a number folks - your pants tell the true story!!

Mi Vida Loca

The past 36 hours have certainly been anything but relaxed... Monday afternoon I left the office returning my mother's phone calls - I had missed two while in my weekly meeting. She needed meds and pet food picked up - shes been pretty sick and not able to get out.. Ok no worries can do.

While I am on the phone with her I get an incoming call from "unknown" I never answer those. Turns out for some reason D's office line is now the "unknown" number.. OOPSIE He calls me back on his cell and lets me know 2 major events are going down.. My Sister in law is indeed being induced that night and then the unexpected even of my father in law being admitted to the hospital about 45 minutes away.

Turns out his leg was bothering him and (HAS been but he kept that knowledge to himself) so he went to the walk in clinic and the clinic walked his ass to the emergency room from there he was admitted. He has a massive blood clot that starts in his hip and goes to his calf WTF.. HOW DO THEY GET THAT BIG?

I dropped my mom's stuff off to her ran home changed real quick grabbed D and some fast food (bleck I know) and hit the road for the drive to the hospital to see his Dad. Hung out there hopped to see the doctor, but he didn't show until 11 p.m (WOW really doc?) Calmed Mom wayyyyyyyy down and headed home. I made arrangements to work from home the next day so we could be "on call" for my nephews and mom.

Tuesday comes and we #1 get a new baby who appeared a little after 7 am weighing in at 9 lbs YES 9 lbs 4 oz and 21 inches long - she's perfect..  #2 Dad starts having issues breathing and some cardic problems - he gets wheeled to CT Scan where the discover he has an additional 3 clots in his lungs..  He's going to be in the hospital awhile and getting shots in the stomach for the clots...

Send up prayers please....

That's What You Get When Wu Tang Raised You...

Another weekend flew by.. Started my Friday afternoon with this....

Yep got all excited all a 13 year old going to a One Direction concert when I saw it too!!

Then Friday night we grabbed dinner and last minute costume stuff for the party on Saturday night.

Saturday afternoon was errands. I got my nails done then hit the liquor store for our drinks for the party.  Next time we have an SNL themed party to go to I'll do a bit more research into the people we are dressing up as.. I am not a SNL fan so I knew almost nothing .. OOPS

We went as the Spartans ...

This was my WTF is he doing thought..

And this is my I hate sweats in public thought... they make everyone look bigger.

Sunday mid morning I managed to make it to the office to get billing reviewed before it's submitted Monday. Even going to bed at at a decent hour I don't make it to the office on Sunday's that early.. I got there a little before 11 and I did it without my Starbucks - whoa.

Sunday afternoon I hit the pedicure chair with my sister in law - no I didn't do it on Saturday when I had my mani- and got my first pedi since March.. Must make it to the pedi chair more often. Honestly I'd pay just for the foot massage and the polish..

Today we are waiting to hear if they are inducing my sister in law this afternoon or tomorrow morning.. Can't wait to meet my niece!!! I have all nephews ( I disowned my full grown niece) and its been YEARS since there was a baby girl (my Princess Peep is 22) so I am excited.

How's YOUR Monday..

I Believe

That once people pass they still speak to those of us the are connected to here. I believe that they know all after they pass, that they instantly have all the answers and clarity.

When my Great Aunt passed we discovered that other family members had told her that they had called and we refused to come. She had been asking for my mother. This bothered my mom that my Great Aunts last thoughts were that her niece refused to be there for her. I told my mother that I didn't believe that, that I knew in my heart the instant that my Great Aunt passed her knew the truth, she knew that we had no idea she was in her last days that her other nieces did not tell us (in fact we didn't know she passed until a month later) that I believed that the instant my Great Aunt passed she knew and saw the tremendous love my mom had for her.

I believe that our loved ones are with us all the time, giving signs even playing little jokes.  This belief was reinforced this morning when I signed on to my Google Plus page (I'm rarely there, and its existence was/is purely business purposes as my company was a beta tester before that thing went live) to double check that all my security settings were still as I wanted them to be.

I had a message pop up from Google Talk when I got to my "wall" from Tom. Its been a little shy of a month since Tom passed and a few days after he had left us I deleted him from my messenger as I had a hard time seeing his name there and knowing I couldn't reach him. The very last message he sent to me popped back up and yes I had seen it the day he sent it so it wasn't a message that I had just not received because I had not been signed in  - I use Talk on a daily basis, it is how our office communicates - I think he just needed to say goodbye in his way as we had not been able to.

No, thank you Tom, you are a beautiful soul...

I Got it From My Mama

Weight has always been an issue in my family.. The only female on my mother's side of the family that was small framed and didn't have a weight issue was my Mamaw.  Out of all my sisters and my niece I am the smaller framed, tiniest female.

Staying that way however is a struggle. One thing I have going for me is that I am fairly active. I do workout as apposed to just watching whats going in my yap or taking the latest diet pill on the market regardless of side effects. I grew up watching my mother try every fad out there. We won't EVEN talk about the 2 weeks she was on the cabbage soup diet that was therapy inducing..

She also was on FenPhen and is to this day pissed its off the market. Health inducing issues be damned - when I mentioned to her that it was killing people he said I'd rather be dead than fat.. Come to find out Mamaw was on some major drugs for weight management as well - in her defense it was the 50's when it was given out like tic tacs when she become addicted and no one then treated the addiction.

Is it any wonder ALL of us girls have body issues?? None of the role models have been healthy ones.  Each looking for a quick fix - my Niece even went so far as gastric bypass and lost a shit ton of weight in months - however she fixed none of her issues and although shes not morbidly obese anymore she has put back on a fair amount of what she paid to have take off.

I will admit to taking supplements to get over a plateau and kick start things but I am never on them for very long and don't consider them a fix. The only thing that is a fix is what you eat and how you move. You can't not get lasting results without that partnership.

I get it. I do however get pissed at times that I do have to watch what I eat and I have to workout or the smallest cheat sticks around. If I am not careful I scrap it all in frustration and end up starting over.. That I also get from my mama and years of bad examples...

Work Bitch

Yesterday was leg day - so yes it hurts to sit to potty - y'all know what I am talking about!!

Love this song - its great for working out - I just wished they would not have photoshopped her. I think she looks great without the help and honestly its a bit hypocritical to say "you want a hot body then work bitch" and then have your editor digitally enhance your video...

Another picture that has gone viral that is causing a ton a hate is this one...

Word out is that people have decided this image is "fat shaming" - yeah not so much. What it IS doing is calling out excuses because everyone has a fricken metric shit ton of them. Myself included.  She's, Maria King , and calling attention to the fact EVERYONE has the same 24 hours in day.

The "I am mom and am busy" line should not be what you use to keep yourself from being healthy. She's saying I have 3 kids AND take the time to get fit and healthy AND so can YOU.  I will take it one step further and say if you are a mom, you do not have the luxury of NOT being healthy - you have kids who depend on you and very state of health for their well being.

Yep its hard work, yes getting started in intimidating - but you CAN do it. Start with making one healthy decision a day and build on that format. Soon most of your decisions will be healthy ones and you will be amazed at how things are changing. How much energy you have to play with your children, how your clothes fit.

Even how your children start to make their choices. When they see you reaching for better food they want better food because you have it. We all know they HAVE to have what mommy does - so when you have fruit instead of Cheetos they want an apple too.

A little food for though.

Get Back UP

Its never to late to Get Back UP - lately I have been eating what I want still in moderation but no where near clean or healthy and the gym has been a distant memory.. Biggest Loser started its new season last night and I am kick starting the healthy again myself.  I have more energy when I am kind to myself by being conscious of what I am putting in my mouth and by moving my body.

While I haven't gained anything major I have lost some of the tone I had worked to get... UGGGGGG I HATE starting over and yet here I am starting over again... Good thing is its never to late to reboot or even reload your OS (sorry geek talk spilling out).

I have had the same excuses everyone else does - to tired to busy to many responsibilities to deal with it right now.  Here's the deal ... Yes I am busy, yes I have a lot going on BUT I owe myself the same consideration and dedication I'd give to anyone, in fact I owe myself more.  I deserve to be healthy, feel amazing and even look good. Yes I OWE myself all of that. Frankly so do you. You owe it to yourself to get off your couch and move to watch what your putting in your body and even how you spend your time.

So what nice things have you done for YOU?

The time I published and forgot a title....

Is it me or does time fly faster the older you get. Anymore when I blink the weekend is over, the season is changing and its the end of the year already... wow. According to the weatherman - btw I am so not a fan, Today is the best day for awhile and its not even that great. The rest of the week is supposed to be cold and wet. I know its fall in the Midwest - shush. This weekend was glorious however and I did enjoy it, knowing its possibly the last for a long time.

Saturday was my sister in law's baby shower. It was a good time and the ladies who hosted went all out.  I had picked up my mother and drove her to the shower. That was easier than giving directions or having her follow me out. In hindsight I should have just had her follow me to the shower and drove at a snails pace.

The car ride was pleasant enough, then we arrived at the hostess' house and my mother in true form started in when introduced to my friends. The back story here is a whole other blog post. Right on the dot at 3 she tells me that she needs to go home as her dog has been in the house since noon. So I ask her do you want me to drive you or do you want to drive yourself?  I can have D come get me if you want to drive yourself. She informs me that No, I chauffeured her there I can drive her home.

Saturday night was spent at home watching the DVR and just chilling after the shower and the Mama Drama. I contemplated getting my bottle of Moscoto and not moving for the rest of the weekend and probably would have achieved that goal had I not had to go to the office Sunday and reviewed billing to get it ready to go to the accountant.

After coming to the office Sunday and working on billing I hit the nail salon for a mani and to cut my nails down. They are super short to me as I am used to long nails - I had them cut down to just over the tip of my fingers. though you can't really tell and they still look longer than they are..

D went to the Chiefs game and witnessed 2 world records being broken - the one for loudest sports arena and the other one was for the most flyovers at 1 time. They are also 6 - 0. I am really looking forward to the Broncos/Chiefs game in November. My Broncos are also 6 - 0!

See they really as just over the tips LOL

Raise Your Glass

Well hello Friday - how are you?? Nice to see you again, come sit stay awhile would ya!

I went last night and got my hair cut - when you wear it short you have to keep to regular haircuts or it just looks like hell and fast.. Going next Wednesday for color ;-)

Its shaping up to be a fairly busy weekend ... Saturday is my sister in law's baby shower, should be a blast its her first girl... WHOOP all pink!!! I have a few things I have to pick up for it - food wise - I've been baby shopping for a few weeks weeks now.. Baby girl stuff is soooo cute. Can't wait to meet the newest Princess.

I need to stop in and get my nails done this weekend - they have grown out and the gel just isn't looking that fresh - its been 4 weeks so its time.

I also need to find D and I Halloween costumes for a friends annual Halloween / Birthday bash - this year is a SNL theme... No clues here NONE.

Sunday I have the billing to review for work - every other week baby... I also need to straighten up the house and do laundry. D will be at the Chiefs game. I need to remember to send ear plugs with him - the stadium is going to attempt to reclaim their Guinness Book of Records world title for the loudest stadium.. Kansas City held the record Until September 2013 when the Seahawks took it. We want it back!!!

In other news my town placed 4th in the top ten of hardest working mid-sized cities in the US. Ha we knew that all you had to do was just ask us! In celebration I am declaring lunch today to be double cheeseburger day (nope totally did now need an excuse was gonna anyhow - this just makes it sound better LOL).

Raise Your Glass and have a great weekend!!!

Carpet Crawlers

I think titles are the worst things to come up with - I am just going to start using song titles or lyrics and possibly Big Bang show titles.. whether they match the topic or not is another story.

And yes that's a real song title up there - Phil Collins cira 1981 and the song is as wacked at the title ... SCORE..

Had a nice time last night just grabbing some burgers on the Plaza with D for his birthday. I had stopped on my way home and got some insane cupcakes. So we had dinner walked a little bit on the Plaza then headed home for cupcakes. OK he had a cupcake and I had a bite I ate to much at dinner.. Warm pretzels with mustard and gouda cheese, a burger and truffle fries and I was done for.. Must get to the gym today...

While the weather is still nice I'd like to make it back down to the Plaza to walk around - the JC Nicoles fountain is pink for October, I love it when they do that and I'd like to finally get decent pictures of it.

Happy Birthday D

I know nothing compares to your birthday 2 years ago waking up to the sounds of the ocean waves hitting the beach from our bedroom on vacation...  if you'd win the lotto that could be ever morning - damn, one of us needs to actually buy a ticket right?

It's been a heck of a year full of challenges, laughter, good times and some bad all of which make life interesting. You always come out on top and ready to move to the next challenge.  Thanks for always having my back.

I look forward to seeing what the next year brings I know all and all it will be a good one.

Happy Birthday!

Weekend Shananigans

Sami's Shenanigans

I was off Friday for the Bad Prom 5k - which got called on account of weather whomp whomp - that's Fall in the Midwest for you.. They are looking to reschedule this Spring and are honoring already paid entry fees - which rocks since generally a race called for any reason is just done - no reschedule no refunds and the fact I spent 4 hours and 140 yards of tulle to make a freaking tutu .. that bitch is puffy!!

I spent a lot of time with this lil cutie ..

There was some drama over the weekend that wasn't ours but it affected us ...

I went to the dinner theater with my mom Sunday night - it was a cute play but the best part was when Dyan Cannon came back out after and just talked with the audience. I loved her story about the start of her relationship with Cary Grant.

I busted out the boots for the first time this Fall season Sunday as it was cool enough out to do so.. Its time I got new ones but I love these so much..

Thursday's Shit I Don't Understand

1. How you can claim to be independent - yet you need every one to do things for you. You get pissed when people can't be at your beck and call and them emotionally put them through the ringer. Yet you claim to not need anyone and that no one EVER has been there for you.. Quiet honestly BULLSHIT.

2. While I am it I don't understand how you can always say "I'm trying my best and no one gives me credit for that" Possibly because no one else is allowed to say "oh I did my best" you let them know that it's good enough and them continue to beat them in the head and heart over everything.

3. How everything can be so black and white with you - when it comes to the rest of us - for you however the rules are so different, so many shades of gray with rules bent around you to serve your purpose and run your agenda.

4. If no one is ever there for you, maybe you should check out a mirror and discover why..

5. The entitlement you feel and get angry over when you realize the world doesn't owe you jack ... I know school screwed you over when every one always got ribbons and medals for having their shoes on the proper feet.  Now there is an entire generation who thinks their fecal matter doesn't stink.  I know your parents - you were not born a princess - suck it up buttercup. I promise, you do not fart glitter and rainbows!

6. Your perception that everyone is always yelling at you, talking snotty to you and disrespecting you is nonsense. When you give snotty you are going to get snotty back - and no we did not start talking you in that tone of voice either - you did. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.  Your tone with everyone is ghastly. We are not responsible for all your stress and bad times in life - you are.

Make the choice to be happy and get that baggage worked out while you are still young.  You can only let the past poison the future for so long then you have to stop pointing fingers take responsibility for your life and the decisions you made. Own your part of the "bad shit" and fix it.

And the Sunsets ..........

I found out early this morning that a beautiful soul has left the earth.. Given his health issues it wasn't totally unexpected yet it was. I knew that this day would come and yet hoped it wouldn't.

I met Tom at work and quickly looked forward to seeing what he would do everyday. Lots of times I would walk into the office to find him juggling, literally juggling - bowling pins, balls, golf clubs.

I love to hear the stories of Tom's days touring the stand up circuit, the people he'd met, the venues he had worked. Tom was always ready with a smile and a joke. His life stories and life lessons were amazing. I will forever cherish what he taught me about life and his amazing smile and laughter.

On Tom's desk there was a picture of his father - a big burly biker dress in drag as a playboy bunny for some charity event - Tom would smile and say " that was Pops and that picture is to remind us to not take life so seriously. Have a ball while you are here."

Thanks for the laughs Tom - I'll forever remember the lessons. You lived your dash well.. Rest my dear friend.

The Dash

by Linda Ellis copyright 1996
I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone,
from the beginning…to the end.
He noted that first came the date of her birth
and spoke of the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of allwas the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time
that she spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved her
know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own,
the cars…the house…the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.
So, think about this long and hard.
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
to consider what’s true and real
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respectand more often wear a smile, remembering that this special dashmight only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy is being read,
with your life’s actions to rehash…
would you be proud of the things they say
about how you spent YOUR dash?
