New Look

Its been forever since I got the ol blog a new look so I thought I'd try some updating.  The banner stays, that was a gift from a dear friend.. http://radiovixen.com/ and is still hosted on her site - even through the year of non-activity.. So thank you Vixen for that!!

How's the week going for everyone?? I'm gearing up to start a 60 day fitness challenge tomorrow morning!! I have registered for a 10k in September and a 5k in October. I believe with the fitness challenge though the first few weeks I am going to hit it hard with Jillian and The Shred - then toss in weights and the treadmill.

So I am hearing a lot about drinking 100 ounces of water per day .. how do you NOT live in the bathroom while doing that.  I got up to 72 oz yesterday and felt like I spent most of my day in the ladies room..

I have noticed however, with the changes I have made so far between the diet and the exercise I am seeing a decline in the severity of my headaches. (I have a headache disorder - I have had a daily headache every single day for the past 14 years - some days are way worse than others). I am cutting back the amount of medicine I am taking - that alone makes it all worthwhile!

What changes are y'all seeing that you didn't expect??

Tonight is dinner with my boss - so the workout will be put on hold for another day - I will be hitting the gym tomorrow. I need to make sure the MP3 player is charged.  I am looking at getting a new one - I have been eyeing the ipod nano.. I'm lusting after the pink one!!

Weekend Wrap up

It was a semi productive semi relaxing weekend..

Friday I got caught up with my Sister-in-law who was out of town for a week.. Hussy up and went road tripping on me.. Before hitting her house though we stopped at Jack-in-the-Box and that was my undoing.. I had an ultimate bacon cheese burger... Honestly it wasn't even worth the calorie count..

Saturday I deep cleaned the kitchen and picked up the living room then we went that evening and hung out with friends and family until 1 am.  I did way better at watching what I ate Saturday, even with a get together tossed in there.  I also did not let myself get as hungry as I did Friday night which led to the melt down of cheeseburger.

Sunday I vacuumed the living room with in and inch of its life and watched TV.. I babysat lil man that night while his Mama went out to the dinner theater with her Nana.  I did a lot better with what I ate Sunday.  My Fitness Pal yelled at me for not eating enough - but with Friday nights over do it I figure it balances.

Hit the scale today and it had not budged - which considering Friday I am thankful it didn't go in the wrong direction.  Also I didn't really work out much this past week. SOOO with saying that ...........

This weeks goals are: at least 100oz of water a day. Working out 3 times this week and being mindful of what I am eating and when as to not get so hungry I eat everything not nailed down...

TGIF- wow what a couple of crazy days its been..

Works just been crazy busy - my to do list has a to do list. I'll take busy over snail crawling slow any day however so its all good. I have already started NEXT weeks lists.

I dusted off My Fitness Pal login and started using it, and joined a new Fitness Group on FB - holy balls that group just exploded in 12 hours.  Its been wonderful to "meet" new friends who all have your back so to speak. The 60 fitness challenge starts August 1st on the group - psyched for that.

I have been recipe searching - tired of the same ol thing and need healthier options anyhow. I just winged it last night and dinner was pretty good, baked chicken with brown rice and loads of roasted veggies - I even had zucchini in there. Which is pretty big for me - in the old days I'd only eat corn and broccoli!  Tonight We are having Orzo stuffed bell peppers and salads.

Lets see what else went down the last few days - I discovered my favorite top is to big and I can no longer get them so no buying a smaller size.  I believe however we determined last night I can still get use out of it paired with a cami and some leggins or jeggings.   The other top is totally not workable and is destined for a donation pile.   I'm really starting to see results from the small changes I have made so far. I ditched my daily soda and stopped going to Starbucks every single morning for a latte.  Now soda is once a month or so and the latte maybe 2 or 3 a month. I am a HUGE unsweetened tea fanatic though - I drink those every day. I just need to get way more consistent about hitting the gym.

This weekend I need to purge some ole clothing and just generally start organizing my house.  I have some stuff in bags now to get them to the local Good Will! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Throwback Thursday

Happy Thursday!!! This morning I picked up the tab for the car in line behind me at Starbucks - that was an awesome feeling that had me smiling all morning.  The Barista was tickled when I confirmed his question that yes it was random and just tell em to have a Terrific Thursday..

I did 1.5 miles last night on the treadmill - took 30 mins. For some reason yesterday's workout was a struggle - maybe it was the draining heat - but I did it. This morning I registered for my first 10k - its coming in Sept.

Now for your "throwback" for this Thursday ...... July 26

Digital disconnecting

Ever "unplug" or go "off the grid" totally for an extended period of time? Did you go all the way or just dial back on certain things?

I am contemplating disconnecting from a few things to regain some order, some time and maybe some sanity.     I am not one of those people who will just delete Facebook and walk away - let's face it I love my Facebook - but I am thinking of banning the games on there. I don't play many - but they are starting to feel like a second job. What started as a way to relax gets insane. Things wilt if you do not water them in time, certain things are only available to collect on certain days - WTF?  I have enough deadlines in 3d land now digital media wants me to have more ENOUGH!!

As far as my cell phone goes and being connected to email 24 7 - that'a a given with my job and that doesn't bother me.  What bothers me is if I don't answer the phone right way for people in my personal life they leave a voice mail, then text then call again - starting the cycle over. I get it you have something to say but maybe for the moment I can't give you my full attention. I have been known to do the same thing so I get it. I am however working on getting better at it. I don't really leave voicemails though as everyone I know hates checking them so if I do get your voicemail I will hang up and text you - to call me back  or what have you.

I always thought cellphones were for the owners convenience - anymore they are the owners leash.  We are SO connected that its nothing to see a whole family together - all on a portable device doing their own thing and not really checking in with each other - no wonder no one really knows whats going on in their own family. I believe dinner time should be gadget free time.

I strive to get back to the family dinner reconnect. Maybe in the near future I will be able to totally disconnect for a weekend....

I invite you to just drive

Over the past few weeks on my morning commute to work I have seen all of the various things listed below.. A women putting on full face makeup, a guy shaving, someone reading a novel (yes the book was splayed out on the steering wheel) a women eating a bowl of cereal and as always someone texting.

All of which have made me afraid to be driving in the lane next to them, behind them, or the scariest of all in front of them.  I understand running late - we all do so on occasion. I don't understand putting everyone else around you at risk.  Sure you have mad multitasking skills, sure your committed to being both on time and looking fab, I implore you however, to either call in late or show up less than groomed - take 2 minutes when you get to your destination and spruce up.  I'd much rather show up alive and less than perfect than a dead body that  is unrecognizable because of your distracted driving.  Texting while driving has proven to be deadly, please don't kill me because you can't stand to not text your friend back "gurl he was fine, & the jeans he wore made my tongue itch. L8ters" !  Eating while driving has been done for years, however pick something more portable - a bowl of cereal??  Lady a breakfast burrito will do more for you protein wise AND is much easier to hold and drive.

Honestly if this is the norm for your morning commute, then take a time management course and go to bed earlier so you can wake up earlier and accomplish what you need to in the morning BEFORE setting out. Frankly you don't have the right to put everyone else on the road at risk. Put some thought into prepping before you get in a car and turn the key. You really are operating heavy machinery and should proceed with caution.

The end of a semi-relaxed weekend

I didn't do much of anything... Friday night I went to bed fairly early for a Friday as I was tired as hell after only get 5 hours of the sleep the night before.

Saturday I really just vegged - beside a trip to Wal-Mart to get essentials and J's crib as he is quickly outgrowing his bassinet.  I can't believe hes 2 months old already. Saturday night Ms. Peep went to hang out with friends and took J with her.  Hubby went to go visit our brother in law hang out and drink beer. I had a date with the DVR and really bad insomnia - bed time for me was 5 am - I spent the night catching up on reality TV and tearing recipes out of Cook Light magazines.

Sunday I pattered around the house watched more TV then hit the local Mexican restaurant and target.  Came home and settled in for some TrueBlood..

This week I need to get back into the swing of the gym - its been so hot here that by the time I am done with the day I am really done with the day - I have no energy to cook either! Dinner for me most nights has been a bowl of cereal..

I am down another pound from last week - I'll take it considering I had a few cheat days and my activity level is down.

So apparently I have died and left millions to "my business associate"

I was cleaning out my junk mail box when I stumbled upon an email wishing to urgently confirm from me if I know a John Campbell who claims to be my business partner and associate.. He wishes that I would reconfirm an application submitted to the Office of the Minister of Finance that I died and upon that death I wished that Mr. Campbell would become my beneficiary..

HAHA newest Prince of Nigeria scam has been born. I will say that being in the IT industry I find these down right hysterical and read them with glee - I do however, realize that some people out there find them to be the down right truth and and that is how the crooks make money. Honestly though if you will stop and read them you can spot the scam and save yourself and/or family members a lot of pain, grief and bankruptcy filings.

Here is are two paragraphs from the letter ..

For your Information, this Government has approved the total amount of TWO MILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS ONLY, in your favor, prior to the Federal Government instructions/mandate to offset all outstanding payments to the various legal

Equally he had agreed to settle and offset the funds release charges. You should note that, if we do not hear from you, we automatically assume that you are actually dead and the information passed to us by John Campbell is correct. H

No I didn't cut off a word those last two sentences, they just stop like that.  The random capitalization is tip  off - there is no reason information should be capitalized its the middle of the sentence.

The letter goes on to tell me that I need to reply back to the email - and gives me a different address to email with some personal information to dispute my death - if I fail to do so they have no choice but to believe Mr. Campbell declare me dead and hand him the money.

HA not so fast Mr. Campbell, even though you are giving me an address for Citibank in PA your email reads like a foreign county - which has no right to declare me deceased, for another thing only my next of kin can file paperwork to declare me dead 5 years AFTER I officially go missing.  I assure you I am not dead or missing. Lastly I don't have 2 mill to declare you or anyone the beneficiary of if I did I'm really sure my husband would have issues with you collecting so go fish elsewhere!!

I do think they way they ended the email was a nice touch ...

We await your swift response in regard to this news we received.

Thanks. God Loves and Bless you and your family.
Yours Faithfully,
FRED BAKARE.

Yay its Wednesday!!

Midweek baby!!!  I love my job - but like the other 99% of American I'm living for the weekend!!!

First off shout out to my Sister-in-law today is her birthday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

So last night I was perusing the race pictures from Saturday night - found our finish line pics - I also found on the website the list of upcoming events.. There's a 10k in Sept.. WOOT my first 10k.. Yep I am registering on Friday.. I also committed to walking Strides for a Cure (Breast Cancer walk) in October with  my Sister-in-law. Which is the first 5k I did that got this all started.. I had a blast doing it and kept going.

I went home last night and walked 1.5 miles on the treadmill then hit the weights - it was all I had last night so I'll take it. It may not have been much but I was still doing laps around anyone sitting on the couch ;-)

Tossing around the idea of going to see Rock of Ages this weekend - not for Tom Cruise but for the music - the 80's and 90's are my all time favorite generation for music - I grew up on hairbands and frankly miss the monster ballad!!!

So in honor of Wayback Wednesday...  One of the best  Monster Ballads of ALL TIME!!!

And race finish line pics - have a great day!

Random Tuesday

I saw this at the store last night ... is it any wonder American's are overweight?? Naw I didn't think so either..

Yep that is Ruffles Ultimate Smokehouse bacon chip dip - does not even look appitising to me. Even before I started on this healthier eating this would have turned my stomach.

Random bit #2 Ladies, even if your office dress policy states casual - Capri jean, a yellow wifebeater -esk tank and flip flops of the shower shoe variation are NOT what they had in mind when they stated Office Casual Attire.  If you would wear it for yard work (not the Stepford wifes, they wear twinsets to weed) don't wear it to the office. No matter how relaxed your office has become it is STILL Corporate America.

Random bit #3 After surfing thepeopleofwalmart.com for a bit last evening - I have come to the conclusion white, tan, and dark brown leggins should be abolished .. UGGGG my eyes!!   Why is it some are drawn to the absolute worse thing in the world for them to be wearing. Some where some girl just put on a hookers rejects looked in the mirror and said self you look smokin - then hit the local Wal-Mart..

Random bit #4 I am down 4lbs from last week.. Hitting the treadmill tonight!

Have a great Tuesday!

And it was a blast!

The Glow Run was awesome.. A little organizing needs to be reviewed in the set up of the run but all and all it was truly fun.  Last night was hot and humid even starting at 9:45 pm .. its was 87 degrees out and humid.  Everyone was pumped though and it proved to be a great time.

My friend Balinda and I before the race started (ignore the glorious porta potty background).  Our official time was  54:11.2.  Not to bad considering the heat and my knee popped out 3 times in the middle of it all.  I'll take it!

Last week I fell 1 workout short of my goal of 4 plus the 5k.  I did 3 plus the 5k - Still pretty proud of that - last week was a hell of a week. Heading back to the Shred next week.

Today I have just hung out at home, straightened up a big and watched the DVR.  Later its off to the store to get stuff for the up coming week.

Here's a couple more pictures of last nights race.

Day before The Glow 5k

Had to go get new tennies last night.. The inserts I had picked up for my old ones just were not getting it - there was no way I could do a 5k in those.  I also picked up my race packet and all the glow sticks they were handing out for the event. Its my first night 5k - I am thinking its going to be a blast!

I am looking forward to downtime this weekend - other than the 5k and going to get lil man's crib I have nothing planned this weekend - first time in a long time that has happened.  Its looking like a good weekend to purge somethings around the house and straighten up.

I have a few things in 2 rubbermaid tubs from high school - my letter jacket some drama productions t-shirts odds and ends all memories - how do you part with that stuff? I have condensed all my teenage memories into 2 tubs that are stored under our bed - I just can't seem to purge the rest of it.  Have you? How did you part with it? I know its just stuff and the memories are in your head - but I can't seem to put that letter jacket in a hefty bag and toss it - I mean I wore that thing EVERYWHERE I worked hard for the letter and every pin that is attached to that letter... I think its just going to stay in that tub and my daughter can figure it out in 60 years.....

Getting closer

Saturday night the KC Glow 5k.. Can't wait!!

Tonight after work its a run to the store then to the gym,  I did nada last night. Yesterday was not my best day so I took the night off. Which still gives me time to meet my goal of 4 days plus the 5k.  My eating has been a little wonky as well.. So I need to rein that back in and '86 the nuts I munch on during the day at work thinking I was doing myself a favor and being healthy. Then I read the label..

Next week I can go back to hitting the Shred since I won't have the 5k to prep for. I'll retake measurements so that I will have an accurate accounting to go by. I don't think the ones I took 2 weeks ago count as I have not done the Shred every day.

What a busy day

Mondays typically are and at the office every other Monday is more so.  Already started my Tuesday to do list..

Got my race info today in the email for Saturday night ... this is going to be a blast - my first night 5k ever. Did 1.5 miles on the treadmill then hit the weights for 20 minutes. Lunch is packed for tomorrow - left over boneless rib and a salad.

Today while reading a friends blog RadioVixen I thankful I am no longer trying to swim in the dating pool.  Holy Moley what the hell is wrong with people these days - and that was just a first date!! Thankfully for her its the only date. Dating has always been a challenge - isn't that what Sex in the City taught us??  These days though is it more so or are people just more desperate now?

I had a few real winners back in the day myself - I remember calling a friend from the bathroom of one such encounter for a ride then crawling out a bathroom window as my date also had hands everywhere. Thankfully not all the guys out there are socially challenged and you can find your prince!

Now I am just chilling on the couch with Criminal Minds - and rethinking tomorrow lunch after seeing what tonight's criminal does with the human remains once he is done with them - and winding down my Monday.

Have a good night!

Stick a fork in another weekend..

Weekends go by so fast..

Thursday night I came home and did another day of shred albeit modified as my knee popped out while I was mid lunge - so I canned those and stuck to the abs and arms.  The we just hung out and chilled.  I know Thursday doesn't count as the weekend - but the knee issue is why I took it easy.

Friday I went after work and had my pink and whites redone (I had been wearing color) then came home and vegged in front of the TV.

Saturday was errands and hanging out with friends Sat night just talking. Sunday was shopping and chilling.  I should have hit the treadmill either Saturday or Sunday but just took it easy.  Though all the walking I did Sunday has to count for something ;-) I walked Costco and 2 malls!!

This weekend I managed to find the coolest ear buds for my MP3 player I use for the treadmill.  I also a new pair of workout capris for the 5K next Saturday night, regular everyday wear capris, the topsiders I have been looking for but couldn't find in my size.. Those I am totally psyched about. As usual I found cute outfits for Jayden.

My goals for next week are to workout at least 4 days PLUS the 5k Saturday night. So fingers are crossed the knee behaves.

Finally Friday

Why does it seem like short weeks take even longer to see the end of than a normal week??  Did another Shred last night ...

This is where I wish I was right now and that's really all I have to say ~ so have a great weekend!

It feels like Monday all over again ......

Note to self - next time there is a midweek holiday take the next friggin day off as well!!!  I'm tired as hell despite the energy pills I took this morning.

Recap of the last few days ... Tuesday I hit the gym and pounded the treadmill for 30 mins (went 1.5 miles).  With yesterday being the 4th of July I didn't workout but did watch what I put in my mouth.  We had a shrimp boil so I stuck to mostly shrimp with a half ear of corn a quarter of a potato and just a scoop of pasta salad and cole slaw.  My sister in law made some fab white chocolate and sugar sprinkled strawberries I did inhale 2 of those and a tiny you could read the newspaper through it piece of chocolate cake.  I stuck to water and unsweetened tea to drink. Oddly enough I was fine with what I ate - I'm sure there will be some all and all cheat days coming my way at some point.

The 4th was a blast - just hanging out with good friends and family chilling and enjoying some silliness.. Lil man did really well considering how blazin hot it was. Though we waited until later in the day to venture out doors to join the party. We were surprised at how the fireworks didn't even phase him.  The only time he jumped is when the half stick went into a bag of flour... Here he is just waiting to get the party started!  In all honesty - this is just about the only time he slept yesterday.

Tonight I am hoping to be able to get in my shred before Ms Lady leaves for a bit and I am watching Lil Man. I do not want to skip 2 days in row!!

The day after the start of The Shred

So it wasn't so bad.. I am a bit sore today I am feeling it in my ab's and thighs mostly.  I sweat like a freaking  pig at a local BBQ and yes I cussed Jillian but I did it ... well most of it - I did push myself but I didn't over push. It makes no sense to me to get so sore that I can't work out for a few days, seems to defeat the purpose.  Besides one day soon I will make level 1 my bitch and move to level 2.

Tonight I will be hitting the treadmill I have a 5k coming up in 2 weeks.  Thankfully its a night 5k with all the heat we have had so far I think a 5k during the day would be brutal.  I am looking forward to it, it sounds like a blast.  After the 5k there is a DJ and it turns in to a street party.  I have already informed D he will be there to hang out after the walk.

There are a few different theories out there about "eating back" your calories after working out. While I can see this approach being something of benefit when you have a party or gathering coming up and you don't want to monitor everything you eat.  In general I think its a waste of all the hard work you're doing.  If you are trying to lose pounds why would you eat back your calories?  I think it will be something I save for a cheat day.

Tomorrow is July 4th... I am looking forward to spending time with family and friends.  There is a rumor of a shrimp boil in the plans! Enjoy the day and stay safe!

Monday is here again.

Hello Monday - not really my favorite day of the week. I am usually a bit more tired on Monday's - getting to bed on Sunday night is a bit more difficult than any other night of the week. At least this week has a holiday in the middle of the week.

Saturday was my nephew's birthday party (his birthday is actually the 3rd) despite the soaring heat everyone had a blast in the blowup water slide. Sunday we did not much of anything - it was an accomplishment to just  make it to the store for groceries.  The heat has been over a 100 for a week now and that is just not an enticement to venture out of the ac to do anything.

After work will be day 1 of the shred I have heard that its pretty hardcore so here is hoping tomorrow I am not too sore. I also need to get back to the treadmill I have a 5k in 2 weeks.  It will be my first night 5k and looks like a huge blast.  With no end in sight of the heatwave I am thankful it starts at 9 pm. Even then its still pretty warm.   As Nike says Just Do It... its one step in my goal to be fit and healthy and lean by summers end! Totally want to rock the MILF status! Its all about motivation right?!?!

Speaking of motivation about 2 weeks ago I found this blog http://www.mamalaughlin.com and read every page of it - LOTS of inspiration there.  Its what kicked me in the ass to get the Shred. Happy reading!
